One of the first steps in the Product Concept Design cycle is to decide how to organize your project. Two organizational paradigms have evolved in the design and engineering world - Top-Down and Bottom-Up Design. Top-Down Design, is characterized by an extensive planning and research phase that leads into the development of a product.
The algorithms are designed using two approaches that are the top-down and bottom-up approach. In the top-down approach, the complex module is divided into submodules. On the other hand, bottom-up approach begins with elementary modules and then combine them further.
Top-down and bottom-up are both strategies of information processing and knowledge ordering, used in a variety of fields including software, humanistic and scientific theories see systemicsand management and organization. In practice, they can be seen as a style of thinking, teaching, or leadership. A top-down approach also known as stepwise design and in some cases used as a synonym of decomposition is essentially the breaking down of a system to gain insight into its compositional sub-systems in a reverse engineering fashion.
While still being in the concept phase the approach for merging relevant tools covering different design disciplines bottom-up and the requirements stemming from the multitude of application cases envisaged top-down was debated and a firm project development map agreed.
