Where the first Bad Santa movieback inincluded all that is best about the festive season, being brash, foul-mouthed, misanthropic, disgusting and sex-filled; it was also genuinely funny, its gradually growing friendship beautifully told.
The iconic scene where the duo play golf while drunk, was actually filmed while the two actors were drunk. The actors had had a few drinks off set and director David Fincher decided to take advantage and catch them on film. Fincher spotted Pitt and Norton hitting golf balls into a catering truck after their beers and decided to film something similar and voila, iconic movie moment in the making.
In Bad Santa 213 years after the events of the original Bad SantaWillie Soke Billy Bob Thornton —now out of prison and eking out a pitiful existence in Phoenix—appears to be the same alcoholic, sex-crazed, crude, self-loathing lout he ever was. This much-belated sequel, however, represents something so much worse than stagnation: a severe regression. Instead, screenwriters Johnny Rosenthal and Shauna Cross merely ramp up the obscenities, as if operating under the sophomoric belief that characters frequently swearing at each other and objectifying women is, in and of itself, the height of comic wit.

A director's cut DVD was released in November ; it features Zwigoff's cut of the film including an audio commentary with him and the film's editorwhich is three minutes shorter than the theatrical cut and ten minutes shorter than the unrated version.
