Earning a high school diploma requires incredible hard work and perseverance, even under the best of circumstances. At the Merrymeeting Bay Adult Education graduation, a young man shared the story of how he survived the devastating earthquake in Haiti and was responsible for helping to count dead bodies in the street in its aftermath. He eventually came to Topsham and found adult education, an opportunity he seized. His language barrier resulted in him failing the GED math section five times before he finally passed, earning not just his high school credential but his CNA certification as well.
Nash was recognized specifically for his imagination in developing creative solutions to problems in adult and community education and rendering long and distinguished service. He has been an adult education director for 26 years, serving four programs in that role — SAD 57, Freeport, Sanford and Windham-Raymond. Over the years, Nash has promoted and supported adult education through his involvement in numerous local community and district committees and state and national boards.
